Spa Profile: The Spa at Terranea

The Spa at Terranea just unveiled a fresh, modern look as a result of a $4.5 million refresh of all its amenities and facilities including airy new modern décor, a dramatic new entry and lobby, modernized lockers and bathrooms, refreshed treatment rooms and lounge areas, and a revitalization of lush, outdoor spaces

Interior design firm RVD Associates oversaw the update of the 50,000-square-foot wellness sanctuary, which features a fresh color palette of soft blues, sandy neutrals, and organic materials enhanced by soft tactile accents and bold contemporary artwork.

The dramatic new entry and lobby are part of the spa refresh by interior design firm RVD Associates.

Details of spa updates include:

  • New Lobby/Entrance. Guests are greeted in the lobby with a distinctive monolithic quartzite reception desk, a double-sided fireplace adorned with handcrafted Moroccan zellige tile, and modern curvilinear furnishings.

  • Lounge/Relaxation Area. Newly revitalized lounge areas bring the outdoors in, enhancing comfort and relaxation with color-splashed mural wall coverings and coastal-inspired lighting. The co-ed relaxation room showcases three new ergonomic Evo loungers by Gharieni, new flooring, wall coverings, draperies, furnishings, and sconces.

  • Locker Areas/Bathrooms. The spas bathrooms feature a new porcelain tile backsplash, lighting and mirrors, while locker rooms have been refreshed with new artwork, modern light fixtures, and refurbished millwork and floors.

  • Treatment Rooms. The spa’s 25 treatment rooms have been refreshed with new paint, cabinets in rich dark cherry wood, Living Earth Crafts spa beds, hot towel warming cabinets, and other equipment to enhance the guest experience.

  • Outdoor Areas. The Spa’s oceanfront outdoor spaces, which consist of lush gardens surrounding the private spa pool and hot tubs, relaxation lounges, and fire pits, have been rejuvenated with fresh greenery and vibrant plantings. The oceanfront spa pool features new outdoor furnishings, patio umbrellas, and freshly re-canvassed cabanas.

  • Fitness Facilities. The 5,000-square-foot fitness and wellness center has been upgraded with state-of-the-art Precor equipment, offering everything from free weights to cardio and strength training machines. New additions include two Peloton bikes, a Peloton rowing machine, nine TRM treadmills, two stair climbers, an air bike, and more.

The new design draws its inspiration from the raw coastal beauty of the surrounding area with a fresh color palette and organic materials.

The Spa at Terranea has also introduced two rejuvenating treatments as part of its renovation:

  • Harmonic Aura Awakening. This 60-minute treatment harnesses the healing vibrations of Himalayan singing bowls, which are placed on and around the body to awaken chakra points. The sacred sound therapy is followed by a restorative marma point body and facial massage, designed to rejuvenate energy flow and promote holistic healing. Using Ayurvedic plant extracts, including arnica and Ashwagandha, the treatment soothes the mind, nourishes the body, and revitalizes the spirit—leaving guests in a state of deep relaxation and balance.

  • HydraFacial. This 60-minute, results-driven facial deeply cleanses skin through hydra-dermabrasion and a gentle peel, extracting impurities while infusing potent antioxidants and hydration. Designed to enhance skin texture and radiance, the treatment delivers a refreshed, glowing complexion with no discomfort or downtime.

The spa’s 25 treatment rooms have also been refreshed with new paint, rich dark cherry wood cabinets, Living Earth Crafts spa beds, hot towel warming cabinets, and more.

“We are thrilled to elevate the guest experience and create a luxurious yet approachable waterfront space for our visitors,” says Ralph Grippo, President of Terranea Resort. “According to new data, with travelers engaging in more self-care experiences, the global spa market is expected to increase to over $156 billion by 2027. Our intentional upgrades masterfully captureboth the energy and serenity of the stunning Palos Verdes Peninsula. The new interior design accents and fine touches enhance the spa’s breezy indoor/outdoor motif, eliciting a delicate harmony with nature while enriching our world-class facilities and amenities to accommodate a rising demand.”

The spa’s stunning outdoor oceanfront spaces had also been refreshed with fresh greenery, vibrant plantings, new outdoor furnishings, and patio umbrellas.
